Details: Glen Innes was named after another Scot, Archibald Clunes Innes, from Thrumster, Caithness-shire. A captain in the Third Regiment (Buffs), he arrived in Australia in 1822 on the Eliza in charge of 170 convicts. He, too, held a number of New England properties including Glen Innes Station.

Details: From January 1824 to May 1825 he served in Van Diemens Land where he recaptured escaped convicts. In December 1825 he was appointed Aide-de-Camp to the Lieutenant-Governor of New South Wales and became a magistrate in November 1826. He sought and gained the position of Commandant of the penal settlement at Port Macquarie, being appointed in December 1826 in succession to Captain Gillman

Details: Richard Keys (Kays), in government service, charged with gambling and resisting the chief constable in the execution of his duty. Mr. George Muir, chief constable states - Last night I was passing a house in Wellington Street. I heard the rattling of halfpence. I opened the door and found the prisoner and another standing with a blanket on the floor before them. On my demanding to see what they held in their hands, Keys refused and on my laying hold of him to compel him, he struggled to prevent me as well as kicked my shins. I succeeded in the end in getting some pence from him as also from his companion amounting to 13d. Keys is a wardsman at the prisoners barracks and has no business out at the hour I found him. The prisoner denies having been gambling; admits having resisted and refusing to have his money taken from him. Richard Keys sentenced to 25 lashes. (Thirteen pence deposited in the office).
